Due to respiration problem SPO2 below 70 he has been shifted to Theni Government Medical College Hospital, G. Vilakku after suffocation on 08.07.2021 at 2215 Hrs. Succumbed to COVID-19 While undergoing treatment on 12.07.2021 at 1935 hrs. The Medical Officer stated that COVID pneumonia respiratory arrest was the cause of death.

Succumbed to COVID-19 While undergoing treatment on 07.06.2021 at 2300 hrs. The Medical Officer stated that COVID pneumonia respiratory arrest was the cause of death.

Jeyakumar HC 1987, Kanyamumari Police station met with an accident on 05.05.2021 at 22.50 hrs at Palkulam village. In this regard Anjugramam police station registered a case in Cr. No.1362021 US 279,337 IPC rw 187 MV Act. First aid was given at Bharath hospital Anjugramam and due to mutiple injuries he was shifted to Muthu Nureo hospital Chunkankadai. In this situtation Covid 19 test also done on 19.05.2021 and the result was positive. Hence he was shifted to Covid IMCU ward at Asaripallam Medical College Hospital and died on 21.05.2021 by without effecto of treatment.

Manikandan, ,5821,So Kandasamy, Special Sub Inspector of Police, Kadalai PS, Ramanathapuram District was admitted in Amar Hospital, Aruppukottai, Virudhunagar District on 13.05.2021 due to illness. He is a Sugar Patient. He was affected 12 of Covid-19 pandemic in C.T.Scan report. Hence, he admitted in BGM Hospital, Madurai on 15.05.2021 for further treatment. On 16.05.2021 he discharged from BGM Hospital and brought to home as his health condition did not respondent to medical treatment. He expired on 17.05.2021 evening, due to COVID pandemic.

He got positive on. 30.04.2021 and admitted in Krishangiri govt., Hospital on. 30.04.2021. Subsequently he was shifted to Christian Medical College Hospital CMC in Vellore District on his request and admitted COVID ICU ward in CMC Hospital, Vellore on 02.05.2021. He was died on. 17.05.2021 at 12.30 PM when he was under treatment in Christian Medical College CMC Hospital, Vellore.

Sankaran was posted as Special Sub Inspector of Police at C2. Sunguvarchatram Police Station. He was worked OD at Highway Patrol II. Covid-19 tests and examination as he was not feeling well. The test result was positive on 04.05.2021. Underwent a medical treatment at Umamaheswari hospital at Chennai and he was admitted to K.C. Multispecialty hospital for further treatment. He was treated at Tagore Multispecialty Hospital and died without effect of medical treatment on 17.05.2021.
 
8 S. Vijayabalaji Gr.II.Police Constable 2400, Villupuram AR ,MT Platoon Villupuram District 18-02-2013 16-05-2021 sugam Hospital Thiruvotriyur Tr.S. Vijayabalaji PC-2400, Armed Reserve, MT Platoon, Villupuram District. His risky fever and suffered shortness of breath suddenly admitted to sugam Hospital Thiruvotriyur, Chennai-19 on 03.05.2021, to had taken the covid-19 test on 04.05.2021. and diagnosed As covid-19 positive pneumonia on the same day, he was advised by the doctor and he had admitted to sugam hospital in ICU ward continued treatment. During the hospital, treatment has suffered shortness of breath finally he died on 16.05.2021 at 01.25 am at sugam hospital, In death performa medical officer mentioned due to Cardiac Respiratory arrest secondary to post covid-19 pneumonia. His mortal remains had been hand over to his relaives for cremation.

Surendran Aged-52, enlisted on 25.05.1988 as GR-II PC, worked as Special Sub - Inspector of Police, Kottampatti PS, Madurai District, had underwent Covid 19 test at Devaki MRI CT Scan Centre at Madurai on 05.05.2021 due to high fever and diagnosed as COVID-19 Positive with 45 Lung Involvement. As advised by the doctor, he was admitted in a Private Hospital Ram Kumar Hospital at Thirunagar on 11.05.2021. He underwent treatment there upto 12.05.2021. Meanwhile, due to heavy breathing problem, he had been referred to GRH Madurai and admitted in ICU on 12.05.2021 at 17.52 hrs. Finally, due to Covid Pneumonia and deterioration in his health, he expired on 14.05.2021 at 06.45 hrs His mortal remains had been handed over to Madurai Corporation officials for cremation.

He was died on. 13.05.2021 at 21.40 PM, when he was under treatment in Salem K.N Raw Poly Clinic Hospital.

Succumbed to COVID-19 While undergoing treatment on 12.05.2021 at 1715 hrs. The Medical Officer stated that COVID pneumonia respiratory arrest was the cause of death.
 
12 Tr. R. Ravi Special Sub Inspector of Police, 9746, Valasaravakkam PS, Chennai City 20-02-1986 12-05-2021 Raj Nursing Home, Mogappair,Chennai City He had taken COVID-19 test at Arthi Scan, Porur on 03.05.2021 due to risky fever and diagnosed as COVID-19 Positive Pneumonia. For treatment, he was admitted in Raj Nursing Home on 06.05.2021. Finally, he died on 12.05.2021 at 17.10 hrs at aforesaid hospital due to Sudden Cardiac Arrest, Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome, Atypical Pneumonia and T2DM. In death summary, medical Officer mentioned that RTPCR done shows CT Severity Score-1525. His morta remains had been handed over to Greater Chennai Corporation Officials for Cremation.

Panchatcharam, SSI 1290, Thimiri PS, Ranipet Sub Division, Ranipet District. Due to the Covid-19 Lockdown he was deployed to the containment duty. Due to the illness he went to Walajah GH took COVID-19 test and Quarantines himself on 10.05.2021. On 11.05.2021 due to the illness and breathing problem. He was admitted in ICU, Walajah GH at 2230 hrs and later he was transferred to Corona Ward on the same day at 2315 hrs. But on 12.05.2021 in spite of treatment the aforesaid SSI has expired. His mortal remains have been cremated 12.05.2021 at 1700 hrs. On the same day afternoon, his test result shows COVID positive.

He was died on. 10.05.2021 at 07.45 AM when he was under treatment in SKS Hospital, Salem.

Continuously treatment with oxygen and finally he was died in Stanly hospital on 07.05.2021 at 11..00 hours due to cause of death Respiratory failure ARDS Viral Pneumonia.

It is learnt that on 03.05.2021 the Police personnel engaged in work while he was developed illness for which 04.05.21 he reported in KN Palayam PS and obtained casual leave from 05.05.21 to 07.05.21. Subsequently on 05.05.21 he has taken Covid- 19 test at Ponni hospital, Palladam and result came as positive. Meanwhile yesterday night 05.05.21 the police personnel went to sleep in police quarters and he didnt wake up and was found dead in Palladam The details are enclosed herewith in the prescribed format.

He was died on. 01.05.2021 at 04.30 hrs when he was under treatment in Krishnagiri GH.

The driver of Government Special Bus No. TNT 63 N 1747 was identified as Kumariah son Kumar of Chatharasan Fort, Sivagangai District.The driver of the Tamil Nadu government special bus TN 631 N 1747 heading towards Thayamangalam collided head-on with Special Investigator Karnan, Armed Policemen Chandanakumar, Balasubramanian and Karl Marx, who were involved in the collision. Balasubramaniam suffered severe bruising to the head, bruising to the right wrist, severe bruising below the hip to Balasubramanian, severe bruising to the face and head to Santhanakumar, and abrasion to the right knee to Karlmarx. Special pro-investigator Karna was rushed to Sivagangai Government Medical College Hospital by 108 ambulance and was pronounced dead. Sivagangai Taluk Ps GaNa 582021 U S. 279,332,337,338,304 II IPC on 26.03.2021 The case was registered and after that the injured Balasubramanian and Chandanakumar were given first aid by the doctor and both were sent to Madurai Rajaji Medical College Hospital for further treatment. The doctor who examined the injured Balasubramanian said that he died at the Rajaji Medical College Hospital in Madurai without any treatment.

26 V. Balu Sub Inspector of Police 25-05-1988 01-02-2021 Eral to Valavallan Road, in front of valavallan Oorkathan swamy kovil SI. Tr. V. Balu was working as SI of Police at Eral PS. On 31.01.2021 night at about 21.45 hours when Gr.I PC 2447 Tr. Pon Subbiah rushed along with Gr.I PC 1588 Tr. Jegastin Rajkumar and enquired Muppidathi. He told Murugavel, indulged om quarrel with him, his FORCE Vehicle bearing Reg. No. TN 67 AX 4389. Hence the Police personnel took him to PS along with his FORCE vehicle and produced him before the SI. Balu. After that SI. Balu and Pon Subbiah had gone on night rounds duty in motorcycle bearing Reg.No. TN 69 J 8942 owned to SI Balu. On 01.02.2021 at about 00.30 hours when they reached Korgai junction at about 00.45 hours where the said Murugavel was standing with a Ashok Leyland Dost vehicle bearing Reg.No. TN 92 E 9601 the accused Murugavel dashed behind the motorcycle with intention to kill them when they were coming in front of Vazhavallan Oorkatha Samy temple at about 00.45 hours took the vehicle in reverse and fled away from the scene. Accordingly Jegastin Rajkumar, PC 1205 Palavesa Partheepan and Gr.I 1817 Thomas Paulraj rushed to the SOC. They took the injured SI Balu and Gr.I Pon Subbiah to Primary Heath Centre, Eral in 108 Ambulance where the doctor who examined the SI Balu was brought dead at about 01.45 hours. In this connection a case in Eral PS.Cr.No.462021 us 353, 307, 302 IPC was registered on 01.0.2021 at 04.00 hours.

While undergoing treatment and succumbed at Sivagangai Govt Medical College Hospital on 21.08.2020 at 08-20 AM.

Subramanian GrII PC 4708 was enlisted in Police department on 01.11.2017. He was transferred and posted from Thoothukudi AR to Thoothukudi District Alwarthirunagari Police station on duty . Currently he is serving in Srivaikundam sub division Special team Crime team which is being monitored by DSP Srivaikundam. On 18.08.2020 the special team instructed to secure one notorious history sheeted rowdy named Duraimuthu Eral PS Rowdy HS No 3242018. So Tr. Subramanian and the subdivision team persons urged to outskirts of Manakkarai village in Murappanadu PS limit. Around 01.30 pm on 18.08.2020 while searching for Duraimuthu noticed that Duraimuthu and 3 others were hiding In Manakari vilakku opposite near forest water tank. On 26.06.2020, he took COVID test and on 27.06.2020 he came to know that the test resulted Positive. As per the medical officers advice he was home quarantined for three days from 27.06.2020. On 30.07.2020, he was admitted in Govt. hospital at Thoppur in Austinpatti PS limits, Madurai District. As the health condition becomes worse, Tr. Pandi, SSI was shifted to GRH for further treatment on 03.07.2020 and continued yet today. Today on 20.07.2020, Tr. Pandi, SSI, succumbed to COVID-19.

56 Shri.P.Subburaj Special Sub-Inspector of Police 01-04-1984 09-04-2017 NEAR SHRI KANNAN FIREWORKS, SATTUR TO THAYILPATTI ROAD, VIRUDHUNAGAR On 09.04.2017, Shri.Subburaj, Special Sub-Inspector of Police of Maraneri PS was deputed for special duty to secure the victim girl Vanitha and to secure the accused Tirupathi involved in Maraneri PS.Cr.No.502017 Us.366A IPC dated 16.03.2017. Using CDR Call Detail Record, the victim and the accused were traced and secured by SSI Tr.Subburaj near Pasuvandhanai village of Kovilpatti Sub Division, Thoothukudi District. After securing them, he met with an accident near Sri Kannan Fireworks, Sattur to Thayilpatti Road, where he was hit by a van TN 45 Y 5461 which came in the opposite direction, while he was bringing the accused person along with the victim girl for further enquiry to Maraneri PS from Kovilpatti. In that accident he succumbled to injuries and died on the spot. He attained martyrdom, by sincerely executing the works assigned to him without any fault.

V.Shankar Gr II PC 1593 01-03-2009 23-01-2017 Kansapuram, Srivillipudhur Taluk, VNR Under the head of higher officials on 23.01.2017 manjuvirattu was started at kansapuram village with 150 tamers and 80 bulls. Thiru. V. Shankar PC 1593 was positioned at the right side of Manjuvirattu vadi vasal beyond the barricade. The bulls were started released one by one and at last a bull that belongs to one pandi of kansapuram was relased at 13.30 hrs. The bull which came out from the vadivasal retured back from the arena and move towards the tamers and angrily injured one sathish and sundaramoorthy of kansapuram. Subsequently, it caused injury to one Alagumurgan of kansapuram. As the bull was unruly, all were terified to near the bull. On seeing the bull, being the tamers, Tr. Shankar who was at duty on the spot without considering his life immediately tried to safe the victims from the clutches of the bull. At that time, he was heavily gored by the so called bull and injured in his neck. He was immediately rescued and after provided with first aid he was referred to government rajaji hospital Madurai for treatment. On the way to Madurai on 23.01.2017 at 16 15 Hrs Tr. Shankar died. With an ulterior motive to save the life of general public, he sacrificed his by abandoned his family.
 
58 Shri C.Munusamy Head Constable 16-03-1994 16-06-2016 Bharadhidhasaan Nagar, Hosur Town On 15.06.2016, around 1600 hrs, a chain snatching was committed by four unknown accused on two motorcycles in Sinigiripalli village, Krishnagiri district. The details about the incident and the accused were passed over to all the evening round officers in the district. Later, at about 1700hrs, Tr. Nagaraj, SI of Police of SIPCOT PS was alerted that two of the suspected accused persons were in noticed in Bharadhidasan Nagar in Hosur Town on a black colour TVS Fiero Motorcycle. On receipt of information, SI Nagaraj along with his team, Tr. Munusamy, Head Constable 784 and Tr. Dhanapal, Head Constable 860 started pursuing the accused persons. Head Constable, Shri Munusamy caught one of the accused persons, who stabbed him with a knife on his stomach. Despite being hurt, Shri Munusamy held the accused tightly and secured him. Thereafter, since he had sustained grievous injuries, he was sent to Gunam Hospital in Hosur for treatment. Unfortunately, Head Constable Munusamy succumbed to the injuries at 0500 hrs on 16.06.2016. The exemplary work of the Head Constable, Shri Munusamy was appreciated by the Honble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Shri Munusamy is survived by his wife and 2 children.
 
59 Shri G KANAGARAJ Head Constable 31-10-1997 20-07-2014 THAKKOLAM RIVERBED On 20.7.2014, Head Constable Shri Kanagaraj, received information about an accused smuggling sand by a tractor from Kosasthalai Riverbed. Immediately, Shri Kanagaraj rushed to the spot. On seeing Shri Kanagaraj, the accused tried to flee. Being a sincere policeman, Shri Kanagaraj attempted to stop him but the accused ran him over with the tractor and fled the scene. Thus, Shri Kanagaraj attained martyrdom in the course of discharging his duty. Shri Kanaraj is survived by his parents and wife. He has received 3 rewards for his exemplary work during his distinguished career.
 
60 Shri C.Thiyagarajan head Constable 30-04-1988 24-05-2013 Chellamal Thottam, Triplicane Head Constable Shri C. Thiyagarajan belonged to crime section of Kotturpuram P.S in Chennai City. On 24.5.2013, around 1500 hrs, Shri Thiyagarajan went to check an ex-convict, Vimalanathan. While making enquiries about his conduct, Vimalanathan stabbed Shri Thiyagarajan on his neck and ran away. Immediately, Shri Thiyagarajan was rushed to the hospital but he succumbed to the injury. Shri Thiyagarajan laid down his life in the line of active duty. Shri Thiyagarajan was survived by his mother, wife, son and a daughter at the time of attaining Martyrdom. He has received 10 rewards during his distinguished career.

Kathiresan Special Sub-Inspector of Police 20-02-1986 28-01-2013 Near MIOT Hospital, Manapakkam District : Chennai | State : Tamil Nadu On 17.1.2013, around 1400hrs, Special Sub Inspector of Police Shri Kathiresan of Valasaravakkam P.S in Chennai City was on rounds. On seeing a drunken person staggering across the road, Shri Kathiresan advised him to go home. Angered by this, the drunkard assaulted Shri Kathiresan with a wooden log causing bleeding injury on his head. Shri Kathiresan was rushed to the hospital, where he died after 10 days of treatment. Thus, Shri Kathiresan laid down his life while discharging his duty. Shri Kathiresan was survived by his father, wife, son and a daughter at the time of attaining martrydom. He has received 15 rewards during his distinguished career.
 
62 Shri T Alwin Sudhan Sub Inspector of Police 01-03-2009 27-10-2012 Vempathur District : Sivaganga | State : Tamil Nadu On 27.10.2012, SI Shri Alwin Sudhan received information about breach of peace in a public function organised to commemorate local freedom fighters. Shri Alwin rushed to the spot along with the DSP and Inspector of Police. Due to some wordy quarrel and scuffle, few men in the mob pushed the DSP down and attempted to murder him with a machete long heavy knife. Shri Alwin Sudhan showed exemplary courage and immediately intervened to save the life of the DSP. However, while securing the accused, Shri Alwin Sudhan was fatally stabbed by someone in the mob. Thus, Shri Alwin Sudhan sacrificed his own life to save the life of his colleague. Shri Alwin Sudhan was only 25 years old at the time of attaining martyrdom. He is survived by his parents.
 
63 Shri P PRABHU Police Constable 04-01-2006 03-03-2012 Rasingapuram District : Theni | State : Tamil Nadu On the midnight of 3.8.2012, Shri Prabhu went along with his SI to execute an NBW against an accused involved in a case of outraging modesty of a woman. Seeing the police, the accused ran into the darkness to escape. Immediately, Shri Prabhu started chasing the accused. However, due to darkness, Shri Prabhu fell in to a dry well. Efforts to save Shri Prabhu went in vain. Thus, Shri Prabhu laid down his life in the attempt of securing an accused. Shri Prabhu was only 29 years old at the time of attaining martyrdom and is survived by his parents, wife and a son.
 
64 Shri M.Pandian Police Constable 01-12-2003 26-01-2012 HADP Ground, Nilgiris. Police Constable, Shri.M. Pandian was serving in Armed Reserve Udhagamandalam. During Republic Day Parade on 26.01.2012 , Shri. Pandian was performing a daring feat of jumping over different levels of human tower formation. Suddenly, while trying to cross the final level, he fell down and sustained serious injuries to his neck. Though he was rushed to the hospital he succumbed to the injuries. Thus, Shri. Pandian sacrificed his life in the line of duty. At the time of attaining martyrdom, Shri. Pandian was survived by his wife and 2 children. During his illustrious carrier of 9 years, he had received 38 rewards for his sincere and exemplary work.
 
65 Tr. selvanath Head Constable 24-05-1999 17-06-2011 Jeyakondam kodankudi Village Hc 1429 S.Selvananth,Motor Transport,Armed Reserve ,Perambalur district met with an accident on 16.06.2011 at 22.00 hrs near jeyakondam kodankudi Village and immediately he was admitted at Thanjavur Medical College for treeatment but he died on 17.06.2011 at early morning 04.00 hrs. In this connection a case was registered in T.Palur P.S in Cr.No 892011 us 279,304a IPC.
 
66 Shri N Chandrasekaran head Constable 17-11-1988 25-02-2011 P N PUDUR, NEAR PERUMAL TEMPLE, COIMBATORE On 25.02.2011, Head Constable Shri Chandrasekaran and his colleague were on night rounds. Around 10 pm, he received information from control room to detain a lorry with registration number TN 33AK 9362, which was involved in a hit and run case of a motorcyclist. When the lorry was spotted, Shri Chandrasekaran started chasing it on his motorcycle to apprehend the driver. Unfortunately, the lorry driver swerved the vehicle and hit their motorcycle in a rash manner, causing Shri Chandraekaran and his colleague to fall. Shri Chandrasekaran fell on the side of the lorry, which ran over his head. Thus, the brave head constable laid down his life while discharging his duty with utmost sincerity and dedication. Shri N. Chandrasekaran is survived by his wife and 2 sons. Shri Chandrasekaran has received 38 rewards in his illustrious career.
 
67 Shri G. Sangili Police Constable 29-02-2008 23-08-2010 Uthapuram Police Constable, Shri Sangili belonged to XI Battalion of Tamil Nadu Special Police in Rajapalayam. On 23.08.2010, when Shri Sangili was on picketing duty near Uthapuram Check post, he noticed an unknown lady jump into the well. Immediately, unmindful of his own safety, Shri Sangili, dove into the well to save the lady. Unfortunately, his head hit the rock and he lost his life. Thus, Shri Sangili sacrificed his life in the attempt of saving the life of an unknown lady. Shri Sangili was only 26 yrs old at the time of attaining martyrdom. He was survived by his Parents.
 
68 Shri R.Panneerselvam Sub-Inspector 15-04-1974 11-05-2010 Papanasam District : Thanjavur | State : Tamil Nadu On 11.5.2010, SI Shri Paneerselvam rushed to a crime scene, in which an ATM security guard had fired at the public with his DBBL gun injuring 3 persons. Immediately the gunman was restrained by police and the gun was pulled out of his hands and given to Shri Paneerselvam. Suddenly, the gunman managed to free himself and tried to snatch the gun from Shri Paneerselvam. Though the gunman threatened to shoot, Shri Paneerselvam refused to yield in order to save the lives of common people around. The gunman, who was holding the butt of the gun, fired at Shri Paneerselvam. Though Shri Paneerselvam was rushed to the hospital, he succumbed to the injuries. Thus, by sacrificing his own life, Shri Paneerselvam saved lives of many people. Shri Paneerselvam is survived by his father, wife, daughter and a son.
 
69 Shri R Nagarathinam Police Constable 16-04-1997 24-04-2010 Near kaliamman temple, O.Mettupatti Village, Sattur Taluk. On 27.04.2010, Police Constable Shri Nagarathinam along with his colleagues of Sattur Taluk Police Station, went in search of Kumar, a hurt case accused. After a few hours of search, Shri Nagarathinam was sent for bandobust duty at a temple. Accused Kumar had enmity towards Shri Nagarathinam because on some previous occassions, Kumar was secured by Shri Nagarathinam only. Therefore, Kumar stealthily followed Shri Nagarathinam and attacked him with a long heavy knife on the back of his neck. Efforts to save Shri Nagarathinam did not succeed and he succumbed to the injuries. Thus, Shri Nagarathinam lost his life in the line of duty. Shri Nagarathinam is survived by his parents, wife and children.

R.Vetrivel Sub Inspector of Police 30-11-1988 07-01-2010 Ambur,Alwarkurichi PS limit,Ambasamudram Taluk,Tirunelveli District On 07.01.2010 at about 14.40 hrs,While Tr,Vetrivel,SubInspector Of Police,was returning to Alwarkurichi in two wheller near Kadana river bridge, Ambur after attending a peace talk in Ambasamudram Taluk office, accused hurled country made bomb on him due to mistaken identy. Due to bomb blast SI Tr.Vetrivel fell down on the road. Subsequently the assailants attacked him with stckles. The injured SI Tr.Vetrivel was brought to GH Ambasamudram and after given first aid he was referred to TVMCH Palayamkottai where he was declared as brought death.
 
71 Shri S.Jeganathan Head Constable 30-04-1989 08-12-2009 Annanji By-pass Junction, Theni Shri S.Jeganathan, Head Constable 1091, was posted in Alinagaram police station in Theni district. On 06.12.2009, Shri.S. Jeganathan was assisting Inspector Shri Antony Arokiadoss at Annanji By pass road at 2200 hrs in conducting vehicle checks in view of Babri Masjid demolition day. While discharging his duty sincerely, Shri S. Jeganathan was hit by a vehicle driver in a rash and negligent manner. Shri Jeganathan was rushed to the government hospital immediately. However,due to the fatal injuries, Shri Jeganathan laid down his life on 08.12.2009. Shri Jeganathan was survived by his wife and children at the time of his martyrdom.

On 05.12.2009, Shri Antony Arokiadoss was conducting vehicle checks at Annanji By-pass road at 2200 hrs in view of Babri Masjid demolition day. While discharging his duty sincerely, Shri Antony Arokia doss was hit by a vehicle driver in a rash and negligent manner. Shri Antony Arokia doss was rushed to on government hospital immediately. However, Antony Arokia doss laid down his life on 06.12.2009. Shri Antony Arokia doss was survived by his wife and children at the time of his martyrdom.
 
73 Shri P. Murugaiah Head Constable 13-06-1974 24-10-1997 Alangulam, Tirunelveli Mail Road, West of Abisekapatti Bus stop Head Constable Shri Murugaiah and his colleague were on special duty in a house breaking case. On 24.10.1997, while returning to their station, around 2245 hrs, Murugaiah noted a lorry and a Yamaha Motor Cycle parked by the side of the road. There was loud alarm noise from the Lorry. Shri Murugaiah grew suspicious of some foul play and stopped the car to check. When Shri Murugaiah went close by, there were 2 persons standing with long knives. On seeing Shri Murugaiah, the accused assaulted him causing multiple fatal injuries. Shri Murugaiah laid down his life while discharging his duty sincerely. Shri Murugaiah was survived by his father, wife, son and 2 daughters at the time of attaining martyrdom. He has received 41 rewards during his distinguished career.

Selvaraj Police Constable 13-01-1978 17-02-1996 Arepalayam Police Constable Shri Selvaraj, belonging to M.A.Temple P.S in Madurai City was posted to Special Task Force, an elite force to nab sandalwood smuggler, Veerappan. On 17.2.1996, Shri Selvaraj was engaged in combing operations along with his team in Arepalayam. At that time, Veerappan and his gang ambushed the police party and in the event, Shri Selvaraj lost his life. Thus Shri Selvaraj laid down his life in the line of active duty. Shri Selvaraj was survived by his wife, 2 sons and a daughter at the time of attaining martrydom. He is a recipient of Chief Minister Police Medal for Gallantry.
 
75 Shri R.Senthilkumar Sub-Inspector 28-09-1987 19-09-1994 Neithalapuram village SI Shri R.Senthilkumar of Special Security Group SSG was posted on temporary basis to Special Task Force STF, an elite force formed to nab a notorious sandalwood smuggler Veerappan. On 28.09.1987, while Shri Senthilkumar was on combing operations in Neithalapuram Village, he was killed in an ambush by Veerappan and his gang. Thus, Shri Sentlikumar laid down his life while discharging his duty. At the time of attaining martrydom, Shri Senthilkumar was survived by his parents, wife and a son. He had received 79 rewards in just 7 years of distinguished service.

On 17.9.1994, Shri Ramesh along with his team was engaged in combing operations in forests of Kailasapallam area in Erode. Suddenly, Veerappan and gang ambushed the police party. In this incident Shri Ramesh lost his life. Thus Shri Ramesh laid down his life in the line of active duty. At the time of martrydom Shri Ramesh was survived by his mother and wife.

On 18.11.1993, 11 militants of Tamil Nadu Liberation Army, headed by Nallarasu, attacked the Police Station and looted Arms and ammunition. During this attack, Shri Thillaigovindan, being the Sentry fought gallantly. Shri Thillaigovindan sacrificed his life trying to safeguard the Police Station from the militants. Shri Thillaigovindan was survived by his wife and son at the time of attaining martyrdom. He has received 22 rewards during his illustrious career.

While courageously executing the task entrusted to him, vehicle carrying the Panchalingam and his colleagues hit a land mine laid by the smugglers and exploded.Thus,Shri Panchalingam laid down his life, while discharging his duties sincerely. 79 Shri K.Ramesh Police Constable 25-05-1988 09-04-1993 Sorrakkamaduva, near MM hills PS limits, Kollegal Taluk, Mysore District, Karnataka State. Police Constable, Shri K. Ramesh was part of a team to nab the notorious Sandalwood Smuggler, Veerappan. In April 1993, a team was sent to Sorakkamadu in Kollegal Taluk, Mysore District in Karnataka. On 09.04.1993, while on combing operation, Shri Ramesh was fatally injured in a landmine explosion.Thus, the gallant Police Constable, Shri Ramesh sacrificed his life while discharging his duty. Shri Ramesh is survived by his parents, wife and a son.
 
80 Shri J. Dayalan Police Constable 27-05-1988 09-04-1993 Sorakayimaduvu Police Constable Shri Dayalan of IV Battalion in Tamil Nadu Special Police, was posted to Special Task Force, a force constituted to nab a notorious poacher and smuggler, Veerappan. As part of the joint operations to secure Veerappan, a team of police officers of TN were sent to Surakka Maduvu in Karnataka. On 09.4.1993, when Shri Dayalan was on jungle patrol, Veerappan and gang detonated a series of landmines. Shri Dayalan laid down his life in this attack. Shri Dayalan was survived by his mother at the time of attaining martyrdom.
 
81 Shri G.Swaminathan Police Constable 27-05-1988 09-04-1993 Surakka Maduvu Police Constable Shri G. Swaminathan of IVth Battalion, Tamil Nadu Special Police, was posted to Special Task Force, an elite force constituted to nab a notorious poacher and smuggler, Veerappan. As part of the joint operations to secure Veerappan, a team of police officers from TN were sent to Karnataka. On 09.4.1993, when Shri Swaminathan was on jungle patrol in Surakka Maduvu forests, Veerappan and gang detonated a series of landmines. Shri Swaminathan laid down his life in this attack. Shri Sukumaran was survived by his wife and a daughter at the time of attaining martyrdom.
 
83 Shri M. Balasubramanian Deputy Superintendent of Police 31-07-1987 18-03-1993 Thalaiyuthu District : Tirunelveli | State : Tamil Nadu On 18.03.1993, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Shri M.Balasubramanian and his team were conducting vehicle check during night rounds. A lorry, TN57 2761, was intercepted and Shri Balasubramanian was making enquiries regarding contents of a plastic can kept in it. Suddenly, the lorry driver started the lorry and drove in rash way to escape from the police. Shri Balasubramanian, immediately started chasing the lorry in his jeep. The night round officers of neighboring police station Thalaiyuthu P.S were the alerted and instructed to detain the lorry when sighted. However, when the lorry was blocked by Thalaiyuthu police station personnel, Shri Balasubramanian jeep, which was closely following the lorry, could not be stopped and it rammed into the back of the lorry. Shri Balasubramanian succumbed to the injuries. Thus, Shri Balasubramanian sacrificed his life while discharging his duty. At the time of Martyrdom, he was survived by his father, wife and 2 sons.
 
84 Shri Paul Arumaithurai Police Constable 17-11-1988 29-10-1992 Valliyoor On 20.10.1992, Police Constable Shri Paul Arumaithurai was on sentry duty in Valliyoor Police Station. An accused, Ramachandran was kept in lock up for involvement in a case of Narcotics and Psychotropic substances. Suddenly, around 1.30 hours, brother of Ramachandran, along with 30 others, barged into the station and tried to set him free. Shri Paul Arumaithurai, despite being alone, stood courageously and fought against the mob. However, the mob over powered and murdered Shri Paul Arumaithurai and took the accused with them. Thus, Shri Paul Arumaithurai sincerely discharged his duty till his last breath. Shri Paul Arumaithurai was survived by his parents at the time of attaining Martyrdom. He has received 2 rewards during his career.
 
85 Shri K.Nagarajan Police Constable 23-12-1985 04-07-1991 Kaveri Road, Pennagaram On 04.07.1991, Police Constable Shri Nagarajan and his Colleague were on guard duty at Indian Bank premises. Around 0100 hrs, some unknown culprits disconnected the power supply and attempted to commit dacoity. Seeing the Police guards, the culprits opened fire indiscriminately, wounding Shri Nagarajan Colleague. Though fully aware of the danger that may befall him, Shri Nagarajan chased the gang. In retaliation, they fired at Shri Nagarajan, inflicting fatal injuries. Thus, Shri Nagaraj made supreme sacrifice to prevent a dacoity. At the time of attaining martyrdom, Shri Nagarajan was survived by his parents, wife and children.
 
86 Shri K.P.Rajendran Police Constable 01-12-1973 06-04-1991 Puthur Police Station Police Constable Shri K.P.Rajendran was posted in Puthur Police Station in Cuddalore district. On 06.04.1991, a group of 7 militants of Tamil Nadu Liberation Army, headed by Subha Elavarasan, attacked the police station and took away arms and ammunition. Shri Rajendran lost his life in the fight against them. Shri Rajendran was survived by his mother, wives and a daughter at the time of attaining martyrdom. He has received 19 rewards during his illustrious career.
 
87 Shri V Palanisamy Inspector of Police 03-11-1966 06-08-1980 Thirupathur District : Vellore State : Tamil Nadu Inspector of Police Shri V. Palanisamy was posted to Jolarper Police Station in Vellore District, on 06.08.1980, Shri V. Palanysamy and his constables were escorting 5 Naxalites. Secured in a pre-dawn operation in Yelagiri hills, to Tirupattur Police Station. Suddenly one of the Naxalites, detonated a bomb, which he had hidden in his underclothes.In this explosion Shri V. Palanisamy lost his life. Thus, Shri V.Palanisamy sacrified his life while discharging his duties courageously. In his distinguished service of 14 years, Shri Palanisamy had amongst rewards, stood all rounder in TN State duty meet in Scientific Aids competition in 1977. Shri V. Palanisamy was survived by his wife, 2 daughters and his siblings.
 
88 Shri R.Yesudoss Police Constable 20-01-1963 06-08-1980 Yelagiri Hills, Vellore District Police constable, Shri R.Yesudoss served in TSP IV Battalian Coimbatore. On 06.08.1980, Shri R.Yesudoss was entrusted with duty of escorting 5 Naxalites to Tirupattur, who were secured in Yelagiri hills. On the way one of the naxalites detonated a bomb and in this explosion Shri Yesudoss lost his life.Thus Shri Yesudoss attained martyrdom in the line of duty. Shri Yesudoss had received 5 Rewards his illustrious career of 20 years. Shri Yesudoss was survived by his wife, daughter and 2 sons.
 
89 Shri C. Murugesan Police Constable 25-07-1964 06-08-1980 Thirupathur, Vellore District Police Constable Shri C.Murugesan L.NK 621 served in TSP IV Battalion, E Company, Kovai Pudhur, Coimbatore District. On 06.08.1980 Shri C.Murugesan wasentrusted with duty of escorting 5 Naxalites to Tirupattur, who were secured in Yelagiri hills. On the way one of the naxalites detonated a bomb and in this explosion Shri C.Murugesan lost his life. Thus, Shri C.Murugesan laid down his life, while discharging his duties sincerely. During his distinguished service of 16 years, Shri C.Murugesan had received 3 Gold medals and 11 Special Medals. Shri C.Murugesan is survived by his wife and 3 sons.
 
90 Tr.Ayyapazham Police Constable 15-05-1974 23-04-1979 Tirunelveli to Sankarankovil Main Road, Near Marukkalankulam Road Junction. Ayyapazham attained martyrdom in the line of duty. when he was assaulted with machetes by a mob.
 
91 Tr. R. Ramachandra Singh Head Constable 30-08-1943 12-02-1965 Gudalur On 12.02.1965 at 14.30 hrs, in defying the prohibitory orders, a violent mob attacked the Post office of Gudalur and pelted stones. The SI, who was on duty there, opened two rounds of fire at the mob. Then the DSP and Inspector went to the spot with more strength and fired 28 shells and 13 grenades of tear gas against the mob. The mob set fire to the lorry used by the Police and another group of rioters attacked the Gudalur PS, where the sentry and other 4 PCs along with the SB HC 350 Ramachandra Singh were in the Police Station. The SB HC 350 opened fire at the mob. But the mob over powered him and beaten him to death. He was posthumously awarded the Police and Fire Services Medal for gallantry by Government of India.
 
92 Tr. PC 644 Devaraj was killed in this attack and his dead body was thrown in the flame of that burning lorry. He was posthumously awarded the Police and Fire Services Medal for gallantry by Government of India.
 
93 Tr. Alagu Thevar Head Constable 12-08-1947 15-03-1962 District : Madurai North, Police Station : Cumbum On 15 March 1962, at 03.00 hrs, PC 483 Alagu Thevar, of Cumbum Police Station in Madurai North District, hastened along with a head constable and an informant, in search of a wanted KD who was hiding in a hut. The KD whipped out a bitchuva from his waist and stabbed at the thigh, abdomen and hip of the PC Alagu Thevar who died on the way to the hospital. He was posthumously awarded the Police and Fire Services Medal for gallantry by Government of India.
